Slackware64-current: KDM not logging in
by Dan Suson from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5CHFE)
I just installed the 1/2/2021 version of slackware64-current. After installing some hardware drivers I tested whether KDE would run. I was able to get into KDE from the command line using startx, so I switched my inittab setting to boot into X11 directly (id:4). After restarting the machine, attempts to log into KDE failed. I could enter my password (still working as root), which works in terminal mode, and the screen would go black for a few seconds and then return to the login screen. I have the following entries in the messages log:
Jan 6 20:18:22 Dans-PC elogind-daemon[1393]: New session 1 of user root.
Jan 6 21:37:11 Dans-PC elogind-daemon[1393]: Removed session 1.
I also set up my normal user account and tried with that and had the same result. It appears that KDE is not talking with the password system correctly. Is there something that I missed doing to set things up correctly?
