Steps from kernel source to generic or huge versions

keefaz pointed out that the kernel that liveslak 14.2 comes with is 4.4.240 and that's too old for my purposes. I need 4.16 or newer and 4.19.167 is the oldest kernel available that is newer than 4.16.

I looked in the Slackware documentation and it says that liveslak can receive kernel upgrades. I read over the Slackware documentation about kernel compilation and I still have questions.

The liveslak docs mention upslak.sh will let me upgrade the kernel. But the doc says that I need the generic version(not sure about terminology here) of the kernel and the modules. I can only get the source at kernel.org. How do I get a generic version and the modules from the source? From the little I understand about upgrading a kernel, the source has to be configured and compiled and then make and install are used, but I don't know how I get from

linux-4.19.167.tar.xz (the file at kernel.org)
to
kernel-generic-4.19.167-x86_64-1.txz (one of the files upslak.sh needs)

or
linux-4.19.167.tar.xz
to
kernel-modules-4.19.167-x86_64-1.txz

Are these created with the steps I very basically just described? Or Is there something else I need to do in place or in addition to those steps? I read most of /usr/src/linux-4.4.14/README and didn't see anything. I've searched the web for kernel versions and such and haven't found anything.

Also, I picked 4.19.167 because it's newer than 4.16, but I wasn't sure how new a kernel Slackware64 14.2 will run. Will it run one of the newer kernels, like 5.9?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=ddHFaGgShx0:INKYn_KE86k:F7zBnMy latest?i=ddHFaGgShx0:INKYn_KE86k:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=ddHFaGgShx0:INKYn_KE86k:gIN9vFwddHFaGgShx0
