Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has been in contact with the Seattle Seahawks for their offensive coordinator opening and would be among the top choices for the job, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

Lynn hasn't decided on his plans for the 2021 season, Pelissero adds.

The Seahawks recently dismissed former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, citing "philosophical differences." Head coach Pete Carroll spoke of wanting to establish the running game following the Seahawks' playoff exit, and Lynn's expertise in that area could make him a fit.

Lynn has spent much of his career as a running backs coach, occupying that position with numerous teams from 2003 to 2016. His work earned him a promotion to head coach of the Chargers in 2017.

The 52-year-old put together a 33-31 record with the Chargers over four seasons, but he was fired after missing the playoffs in back-to-back campaigns.

Under Lynn, the Chargers' offense didn't finish lower than 11th in yards per game, ranking as high as fourth in 2017.

The Seahawks marched to a 12-4 record in 2020, but they struggled to remain consistent. Seattle's offense was middle-of-the-pack in total yardage (17th), passing (16th), and rushing (12th).
