Using ISCSI Backstore/FileIO

I have a question regarding the use of ISCSI Backstore FileIO. I want to create a iscsi target that can be accessed from a client to use as regular storage.

The reason I have the question is that everything that I've read mention the use of image/img when creating the target storage. My confusion is that when creating iscsi storage on the target under backstore/fileio does that mean I can only store from the remote client executable objects, images/pictures, or ISO's.

I really from the remote client store any type of object that I want wither its an executable image, standard text file, pictures/images or ISO's.

Please help me resolve my confusion?
