Next steps

I have installed Ubuntu ( thanks from the help I received in my Open SUSI thread )Now I would like to know what my next step/steps should be to learn Linux ?
With Windows I can alter the registery,use command promptget get rid of a virus etc.What do I have to do to get to this stage with Linux ?
