The Baltimore Ravens will release veteran running back Mark Ingram on Tuesday after two seasons with the team, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Ingram's release will give the Ravens $5 million in salary-cap relief while also allowing the veteran an early start on free agency.

The running back rushed for over 1,000 yards during his first year with the Ravens but fell out of favor during the 2020 season. Ingram's role decreased as the year progressed, and he fell behind the likes of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Ingram was a healthy scratch for four of the team's final five games, including its two postseason contests.

The Ravens will likely continue to rely on a potent rushing attack that features Dobbins, Edwards, and quarterback Lamar Jackson next season. Jackson led the team with 1,005 rushing yards but Dobbins also impressed during his rookie campaign, compiling 805 yards on the ground. Edwards contributed 723 rushing yards of his own.

Ingram finished with a career-low 299 rushing yards this season and appeared in only 11 games, his fewest since 2013.

The running back thanked the organization Monday night and also noted the best is still ahead for him.
