Some love it raw and some love it rolled, with rice. And wasabi.

Let's face it, creating your own sashimi at home can be a little daunting. Especially now in lockdown. It's hard to access fresh fish when you aren't getting groceries more than once a week. Why not embrace the takeout and delivery options here in Hamilton?

Whatever way you like your sashimi or sushi, here is some local flavour you can rely on.

1. Sushi on Fennell - 669 Fennell Ave. E. It's hot, meaning you really need to order early. Most days they are so busy they can't do delivery, it's takeout only, but this gem gracing the east Mountain near Upper Sherman offers a fantastic party platter for around $40 and ups the sushi game in the area. Hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 3 to 9 p.m. 905-389-9669 sushionfennell.com

2. Ajio Sushi - 161 King St. E. The menu is big my friends. Lots to choose from and you can't go wrong with this takeout in the downtown Hamilton area. We especially enjoyed the Ajio Special, which is an appetizer, a special roll and two orders of sushi or sashimi for $22. Hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m. 905-526-8888 ajiosushikorea.com

3. Sushi Azuki - 184 Locke St. S. This little prize opened on Locke Street offering appetizers, rolls, sashimi and poke bowls. A 38-piece roll party tray will cost you about $40. Hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. 365-925-0115 sushiazuki.ca

4. Saporro - 96 Main St. E. A first experience for most Hamiltonians, this traditional Japanese and Thai restaurant just east of downtown continues to offer many options for all tastes. A 40-piece Spring Tray will run you about $46. Hours are Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and noon to 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. 905-527-1668 sapporohamilton.ca

5. Red Maple Sushi - 2732 Barton St. E., Unit 7. Rolls to sashimi will keep you coming for more. A 44-piece Maki tray will cost about $37. Hours are Monday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., closing at 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. 289-389-1122 redmaplesushi.com

6. Chef Martin Sushi House - 53 King St. E., Stoney Creek or 1048 King St. W., Hamilton. This go-to in Stoney Creek has opened another stop in Westdale. A small party tray with 40 pieces will run you about $40. Hours are Monday to Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Stoney Creek and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Westdale. 905-662-0491 (Stoney Creek) and 905-522-4991 (Hamilton/Westdale) chefmartinsushi.com
