Samba corrupted, Ubuntu 18.04

Ubuntu 18.04, Samba corrupted;
file and printer sharing and upgrade to 20.04 seem to be affected by this corruption.
Question; can I safely uninstall and re install Samba? Is this likely to repair the corrupted files? My hope is that an upgrade to 20.04 will fix the problem but the upgrade is not working. Suggestions?
