Draisaitl, McDavid combine for 11 points in barn burner vs. Senators
Edmonton Oilers superstars Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid went nuclear Sunday versus the Ottawa Senators, combining for 11 points in an 8-5 victory.
Draisaitl had a whopping six assists, falling one shy of tying the single-game record set on numerous occasions by Wayne Gretzky. The reigning MVP became the 29th player in league history to accomplish the feat and the first since Hall of Famer Eric Lindros in 1997, according to Sportsnet Stats.
Draisaitl is also the only player in NHL history to record six assists through the first two periods of a game, according to Stats bt STATS.
McDavid had a goal and four assists one night after collecting three points - including the overtime winner - against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Edmonton's dynamic duo did most of their damage on the power play, which was 4-for-5 on the night.
McDavid (22) and Draisaitl (21) now own commanding holds on first and second place in the NHL points race through 11 games. They were the league's top two scorers last season.
