14.2/x86_64: digital sound output issue via USB ports

My desktop has an Asus Prime 470x Pro motherboard with 2 USB3.x ports on the front of the case. They work fine for everything except sound output to my digital headsets.

Using my Logitech H570e or MPOW HC headsets pavucontrol shows the microphones work but not the headphones. I've tried listening to the audio tracks on videos here and both news sites and YouTube with Firefox. No sound out of the headphones.

Analog sound via the motherboard audio output port works for the external speakers and the headphones on the Yamaha CM500 headset, regardless of source.

Using alsamixer I disabled auto mute and set headphone controls to 100% but there's still no sound.

I've no idea what to try next to identify the source of the problem and I hope more experienced users here can help.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=hFa04YPFn_s:vLttlPYYaH0:F7zBnMy latest?i=hFa04YPFn_s:vLttlPYYaH0:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=hFa04YPFn_s:vLttlPYYaH0:gIN9vFwhFa04YPFn_s
