How to get rid of MacKeeper Virus - MacOS
by gentisle from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5DKZS)
Hi all,
I just got a new MacBook Pro, and was looking for an uninstaller. I found MacKeeper, and installed it. Now I find out that it's a virus/trojan. Tried uninstalling it, but it has been programmed to never be uninstalled. So, I tried a factory reset of the SSD. After getting all that done and booting into the OS, I run Code:ps -ax | grep mackeeper, and it is still there. Problem is that if I use history to issue the process command again, the PID has changed! So there is no way to kill it! In the reset, I first erased the SSD, then installed. I searched for uninstalling the program, however all the links have old info. They keep changing the program to keep users from being able to uninstall. This page https://www.chriswrites.com/how-to-completely-remove-mackeeper-from-your-macbook/ confirms something I should have already checked out, but I'm getting old and rusty. Sorry to trouble y'all. Any suggestions?
