Is 'granding permissions' during adding a Thunderbird addon a security risk?

As you see in the attachment image thunderbird during installation of a Emoji addon asks whether i allow it to 'Have full,unrestricted access to Thunderbird and your computer!!'

On the face of it it sound ridiculous.
But since i havent install a thuderbird addon for ages i ask if i miss something.
