Kansas City Chiefs assistant Britt Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, was involved in a multi-car crash Thursday that left a five-year-old with life-threatening injuries, according to a police report obtained by ESPN's Adam Teicher.

"The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving outside linebackers coach, Britt Reid," the Chiefs said Friday in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved."

Reid allegedly crashed into two cars that were parked on an on-ramp to Interstate 435 in Kansas City, one exit south of the Chiefs' practice facility. The first vehicle had run out of gas, while the second was driven by a relative who had come to help, according to the report.

The police report doesn't identify anyone involved in the crash by name, but Reid told a police officer he was driving the third car, reports Tod Palmer of KSHB, citing a search warrant. The 35-year-old also said he had consumed two-to-three drinks before the collision, according to an application for the warrant.

Reid sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was investigated for impairment.

The Chiefs are scheduled to depart for Tampa, Florida, on Saturday ahead of Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reid, the Chiefs' head coach, will travel with the team and participate in Sunday's game, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini.
