how can i enable CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT and WIRELESS_EXT while compiling kernal

I was trying to compile my first kernel and my requirement has to enable a wireless ext. in the kernel for the RTL8723bs wifi driver
I was getting an error that CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT was not set when trying to compile. and I was unable to find CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT in the .config file.
