A Hamilton man has been arrested after police say an altercation with his father ended in a shooting on the central Mountain Tuesday night.

In a press release, Hamilton police said officers and other emergency services were called to a home in the area of Upper Sherman Avenue and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway on Feb. 9 just before 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, police found a man who had suffered a single gunshot wound to his lower-body. Officers spoke with the victim, who was then taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they secured the area around the home and gathered evidence.

Through their investigation, police allege the man was involved in an argument with his son.

As the interaction escalated, the victim was shot by his son," said police.

Just before 9:30 p.m., the suspect then returned to the home, where he was arrested without incident, said police.

A 28-year-old Hamilton man is facing several" firearm-related charges and is to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Wednesday.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and Hamilton police said they expect to be at the residence for most of Wednesday morning.
