The Denver Broncos are releasing cornerback A.J. Bouye one year after acquiring him from the Jacksonville Jaguars, a source told Mike Klis of 9News.

Bouye played in only seven contests for the Broncos, missing time early in the 2020 season with a shoulder injury before suffering a concussion and then drawing a six-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. Bouye still has two games left on his ban.

Denver landed Bouye for a fourth-round pick last March, hoping he would regain the Pro Bowl form he displayed in previous years with the Jaguars. He struggled as the Broncos' No. 1 cornerback, as opposing quarterbacks earned a 102.9 passer rating when targeting him in coverage, per PFF.

By cutting him, Denver obtains $13,218,750 in salary cap relief, according to OverTheCap.

Bouye, who turns 30 in August, has split his eight-year career between the Houston Texans, Jaguars, and Broncos.
