upgraded kernel nvidia video x wont start

I upgraded my kernel now x wont start cause I lost the nvidia module.
tried getting upgraded source but it said I have latest. Im lost.
not familiar with debian aptitude. dont know which kernel version is update would like to remove and get kernel source and reinstall nvidia driver
