Report: NFL won't release audio of Brady-Mathieu exchange at Super Bowl

The NFL released its full mic'd up footage of Super Bowl LV on Thursday, but notably absent is the exchange between Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu, despite Mathieu being wired for audio.

NFL Films won't share what was said between the two competitors and doesn't typically release such audio, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Brady and Mathieu were seen jawing at each other on multiple occasions throughout the game. The Chiefs safety drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after one exchange and said after the Super Bowl loss that Brady called him "something I won't repeat."

NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin - who works as an analyst for both NFL Network and Showtime's "Inside the NFL" - said he heard the audio, and Brady did not use any racial epithets.

"I didn't like that Tyrann Mathieu put that out like that. ... Because, I go, come on now. It makes it sound as if - it makes people want to know, 'What'd he say?'" Irvin said Tuesday on "The Rich Eisen Show," according to TMZ Sports.

"As if he said the n-word. And he did not. Tom did not. So, you know, I didn't like that even looming over this situation."

Brady reportedly reached out to Mathieu and apologized via text after the Super Bowl.
