In a release, police said officers responded to the report of an assault at a residence in the area of Quigley and Angus roads, south of King Street East, just after 1:30 a.m.
Officers located a man in his mid-40s with what appeared to be stab wounds to his upper body, said police. He was transported to hospital.
A 48-year-old Hamilton man was arrested at the home without incident. Police said the suspect is the brother of the victim.
He remains in police custody, but police said criminal charges are not being released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing."
The investigation has been taken over by the east end station's criminal investigations branch. Residents can expect a police presence in the area for the majority of Friday morning.
