looking for new oporating system

I have decided to give up with mint as to many problems.
I have also given up with core (why on earth someone would make an oporating system that has no boot loader or installer to it is beyond me really!)

What about ubuntu? any suggesting please?
Or given the fact that I dont even know what a sudo or mount is should I just pack the whole thing in and go back to windows?
