How to customize printing to only certain pages in Linux?

I am running a GNU/Linux system (kernel 4.18) with the Gnome 3.22.2 desktop environment.

I have a printer that can only print in single-sided mode, so when I want double-sided output I have to print all odd pages first, put the paper back, and print all the even pages on the other side.

Sometimes, however, I like to print two pages per side so that in the end I would have four pages printed onto the two sides of a physical piece of paper.

How can I achieve this in a GNU/Linux system with a single-sided printer?

If the document is only, for example, 8 pages, I can manually specify pages "1-2, 5-6" in the Gnome printing dialog window during the first print to print those pages onto one side of two pieces of paper. Then I flip the papers and print pages "3-4, 7-8" onto the other side. But if the document is long, then manually specifying the pages to print becomes impractical.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=3O0v5fTVZPQ:FFnJscopoZs:F7zBnMy latest?i=3O0v5fTVZPQ:FFnJscopoZs:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=3O0v5fTVZPQ:FFnJscopoZs:gIN9vFw3O0v5fTVZPQ
