Double shooting on Arvin Avenue leaves man dead, woman injured
Hamilton police are investigating a double shooting behind a business in Stoney Creek Sunday evening that left one man dead and a woman seriously hurt.
The homicide victim has been identified as 39-year-old Tyler Pratt, said Det. Sgt. Jim Callender, of the major crime unit. A 26-year-old woman remains in hospital.
Police believe they were shot at the rear of 347 Arvin Ave. around 7:15 p.m.
The woman managed to walk out front where passersby stopped and called police. She was transported to hospital and as police were working to clear the scene they found Pratt dead behind the building.
Police are looking for a white, newer-model Land Rover that is believed to have body damage, Callender said.
It's not clear what the pair were doing at the business or how they got there, he said. They have no ties to the business, which was closed at the time.
The area is largely industrial. Police are hopeful they will find vast" amounts of surveillance video.
Pratt is from British Columbia, but was in the process of moving to the GTA, Callender said.
The 26-year-old woman has ties to Hamilton, but has lived in various cities. Police were able to have a limited conversation with her.
The two victims know each other.
No weapons have been seized, but police believe there was likely only one gun involved.
Callender is appealing to anyone in the area between 6:45 and 7:20 p.m. Sunday to call police or approach the command van in the area.
Police are also looking for surveillance video.
Police are expected to be in the area all day Monday.
