Seahawks releasing Dunlap

The Seattle Seahawks are releasing Carlos Dunlap, the defensive lineman announced Monday.

"Grateful for the opportunity, (the) Seattle trade helped me grow in many ways," Dunlap wrote about his eight-game stint with Seattle in 2020. "Still would love to play in front of the 12s, experience Seattle when things are open, but this is what it is right now."

Dunlap's release will save the Seahawks roughly $14 million in cap space.

Seattle acquired Dunlap for a seventh-round pick and guard B.J. Finney in a midseason trade with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dunlap hit his stride upon joining the Seahawks, registering five sacks over eight games. He also recorded 14 quarterback hits, tied for the most on the team with Jamal Adams and Jarran Reed.

The 32-year-old defensive lineman will immediately become a free agent upon the completion of his release. He's notched 87.5 sacks over his 11-year career.
