Tobin says Burrow's rehab going well, Bengals want to 'build around him'
Cincinnati Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin is encouraged by Joe Burrow's recovery from his torn ACL.
Tobin said Monday the young quarterback is attacking his rehab at full speed and things are headed in a positive direction, according to Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
He added that Cincinnati will prioritize adding players to aid Burrow's growth.
"I think we have one of the premier best, young quarterbacks in the game, and we're going to do everything we can to build around him," the executive said, according to team reporter Marisa Contipelli. "It's going to start with him."
Burrow said in January he didn't think he'll be ready to play in preseason games but plans to return in time for the 2021 season opener.
The Bengals have a number of decisions to make to build around their quarterback, including the long-term status of defensive tackle Geno Atkins.
Though Tobin said Atkins' 2020 regression was due in large part to a shoulder injury, he was coy on the 32-year-old's future with the club, saying "we'll see," according to ESPN's Ben Baby.
