Report: Fitzpatrick agrees to 1-year, $10M deal with Washington
Ryan Fitzpatrick is putting on another uniform.
The journeyman quarterback reached a one-year, $10-million deal with the Washington Football Team that can grow to $12 million with incentives, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The 38-year-old will be joining his ninth franchise and third in the past four years.
Fitzpatrick is expected to enter training camp as Washington's starting quarterback but will draw competition from Taylor Heinicke, Schefter adds.
Washington overcame a revolving door at quarterback to win the NFC East in 2020. Former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins entered the year as the starter but was released before the season ended. Alex Smith played in eight games and won five, but missed the wild-card game due to injury. He was also released after the campaign.
Heinicke impressed in the 31-23 playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was signed to a two-year extension in February.
Fitzpatrick spent the past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. During that time, he appeared in 24 games and won nine as the starter. He mentored first-round draft pick Tua Tagovailoa during the 2020 season and started seven games while leading Miami to a 10-6 record.
The signing leaves the Dolphins without a veteran behind Tagovailoa entering 2021.
