Report: Patriots signing Henry to 3-year, $37.5M contract
The New England Patriots made yet another free-agent splash Tuesday, agreeing to terms with tight end Hunter Henry on a three-year, $37.5-million contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The deal, which comes just one day after New England agreed to sign former Tennessee Titans tight end Jonnu Smith, includes $25 million guaranteed.
Henry spent the first five seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he was effective as both a receiver and blocker.
The 26-year-old amassed 613 receiving yards, four touchdowns, and a career-high 60 receptions in 2020.
Bill Belichick has made it a priority to improve a skill-position group that struggled mightily last year. New England also agreed to terms with wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne on Monday.
Henry and Smith are both expected to play a major role for the Patriots this upcoming campaign, headlining multiple tight end sets. Henry can line up along the line of scrimmage, while Smith is best utilized as a matchup winner at various spots.
