The New York Giants and star defensive lineman Leonard Williams agreed to a three-year, $63-million contract that includes $45 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

New York placed the franchise tag on Williams for the second straight year last week after the two sides failed to reach a long-term extension following the regular season.

Williams' new deal includes a $22.5-million signing bonus that drops his cap hit from over $19 million on the tag to around $11 million, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The one-time Pro Bowler's $21-million average annual salary ranks third in the NFL among defensive ends, behind only the Los Angeles Chargers' Joey Bosa ($27 million) and the Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett ($25 million), according to Spotrac.

Williams enjoyed a career year in 2020, racking up 57 tackles and 11.5 sacks. He was the only Giants player to top four sacks last season.

The Giants acquired the 26-year-old USC product from the New York Jets during the 2019 season in exchange for a third-round pick and a fifth-round selection.

Selected sixth overall in the 2015 draft, Williams has amassed 323 career tackles and 29 sacks.

New York's defensive line took a big hit Monday with the departure of free agent Dalvin Tomlinson to the Minnesota Vikings. The Giants' defensive front also features 2019 first-round pick Dexter Lawrence.
