Report: Lions to acquire Brockers in trade with Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are trading defensive tackle Michael Brockers to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round pick, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Brockers' departure comes after Los Angeles did some significant work in restructuring contracts to get under the salary cap. The veteran lineman was also approached about reworking his deal, but the two sides' inability to agree to terms eventually led to the trade, Rapoport reports.
The trade will save the club over $6 million against the salary cap in 2021, according to Over The Cap.
A first-round pick in the 2012 draft, Brockers has spent his nine-year career with the Rams. He's suited up for 138 games over that stretch - starting in all but two - while recording 28 sacks. His five sacks this past season stands as the second-most of his career.
Brockers, 30, should slide into a starting role on the interior of Detroit's defensive line, providing both a run defense and pass rush upgrade.
