Report: Cardinals, Green finalizing 1-year deal worth up to $8.5M
The Arizona Cardinals are closing in on a one-year contract worth up to $8.5 million with receiver A.J. Green, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The deal will also include $6 million in guaranteed money.
Green has spent his entire 10-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals since being drafted with the fourth pick in 2011. He was consistently the team's primary receiving threat early in his career, making the Pro Bowl in each of his first seven seasons.
His production has declined in recent campaigns. Green missed the 2019 season due to injury, and he recorded 47 receptions for 523 yards in 2020.
The 32-year-old will now join a Cardinals receiving corps that also features DeAndre Hopkins. Green will bring a veteran presence to Arizona as well, with the future of longtime team leader Larry Fitzgerald still unclear. Fitzgerald hasn't made a decision between retiring or returning for an 18th season.
Green has recorded six career 1,000-plus-yard seasons and 9,430 total receiving yards.
The Cardinals continue to be active this offseason. In addition to agreeing to terms with Green, Arizona acquired Rodney Hudson in a trade later on Wednesday. The Cardinals have also re-signed Kelvin Beachum and Markus Golden, among others, and inked veteran pass-rusher J.J. Watt.
