Report: Bucs' Godwin signs franchise tag
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has inked his $15.9-million franchise tag, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Buccaneers can sign the wideout to a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline for tagged players.
Both Tampa Bay and Godwin have expressed interest in extending their partnership past 2021.
The 25-year-old has come into his own since the Bucs drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played a pivotal part during their Super Bowl run last season as his 232 postseason receiving yards led the team.
Godwin recorded a career-high 1,333 receiving yards in 2019. His 840 yards in 2020 ranked second on the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay has focused on retaining its Super Bowl core this offseason. The club signed Tom Brady to a new contract and re-signed Shaq Barrett and Lavonte David.
