Report: Jets in talks with Smith-Schuster
The New York Jets have been in conversation with free-agent wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Smith-Schuster hit the market after four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was expected to be a coveted commodity but has seemingly fallen victim to a saturated receiver market and a lower salary cap. The Steelers haven't closed the door on re-signing him, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
The Jets have already added one marquee offensive weapon in free agency, landing former Tennessee Titans wideout Corey Davis on a three-year contract. New York is looking to improve an offense that ranked last in yards and points last season.
Smith-Schuster had 97 receptions for 831 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020 for a Steelers offense that relied on quick passes and yards after the catch. He posted 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018 as the No. 2 receiver to Antonio Brown.
A move to the Jets would reunite Smith-Schuster with his college quarterback, Sam Darnold.
