The Buffalo Bills are signing former Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.

The deal is worth $2.5 million, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Trubisky, 26, posted a 29-21 record over 50 starts during his four years with the Bears. Chicago drafted him second overall in 2017, ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson.

The Bears declined Trubisky's fifth-year option prior to the 2020 season. He lost the starting job to Nick Foles early in the campaign before reclaiming it down the stretch.

Trubisky passed for 2,055 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions last year while completing a career-high 67% of his passes.

He projects to play behind franchise signal-caller Josh Allen next season. In his third year, Allen broke single-season Bills marks for yards (4,544), touchdowns (37), and completions (396).

Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane described the signing as a "reset" for Trubisky, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, adding that he doesn't expect the beleaguered passer to be with the Bills long term.

Signing Trubisky means the team is unlikely to bring back unrestricted free agent and former backup quarterback Matt Barkley.

Meanwhile, the Bills are interested in extending Allen this offseason and plan to meet up with him about the deal following the draft this spring.
