Cardinals GM believes Green has 'a lot left in the tank'
A.J. Green hasn't played at a Pro Bowl level for several years, but Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim believes the wide receiver can still produce.
"He's still got a lot left in the tank, in my opinion," Keim said, according to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. "Runs great routes, really strong in traffic. I think he was the third-best receiver in the NFL this past year with catching balls in traffic, and really strong hands, still has the vertical speed, runs crisp routes."
Arizona signed Green to a one-year contract worth up to $8 million, with a $6-million base salary, despite the veteran putting together the worst season of his career in 2020.
After missing the entire 2019 campaign due to an ankle injury, Green caught just 47 of 104 targets for 523 yards and two touchdowns. The 32-year-old also only played in nine games during the 2018 campaign.
The former Cincinnati Bengals star made seven Pro Bowl appearances from 2011-17 and earned three second-team All-Pro nominations over that time.
Green was often asked to carry the Bengals' passing attack, but that won't be the case in Arizona with DeAndre Hopkins - who was second in the NFL in targets with 160 last season - drawing the focus of opposing defenses.
"I'm very excited about that," Green said. "Ten years playing in an offense where I'm the focal point to take away every week, coming to this offense having all the other guys ... it's going to make my job a lot easier."
