Two men have died in separate flooding incidents in New South Wales and Queensland, marking the first fatalities of this week's catastrophic" weather event.

A 25-year-old man died on Wednesday after his car became trapped in floodwaters in Sydney's north-west, while a 38-year-old man, who had been reported missing on Monday, was found in an upturned car in floodwaters in the Gold Coast hinterland.
