Report: Coleman signs 1-year contract with Jets
The New York Jets and free-agent running back Tevin Coleman agreed to a one-year contract worth a maximum of $2 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Coleman is coming off a two-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers. The 27-year-old rushed for only 53 yards in an injury-depleted 2020 season but ran for 544 yards and three touchdowns as part of San Francisco's loaded backfield in 2019.
The Jets went into the offseason with no clear starter in the backfield. Frank Gore, now a free agent, led the team in rushing last year with 653 yards and two touchdowns, averaging a paltry 3.5 yards per carry.
In New York, Coleman will reunite with head coach Robert Saleh, who was the 49ers defensive coordinator throughout his tenure in San Francisco.
La'Mical Perine and Ty Johnson are among the other rushers on the Jets' depth chart, and the franchise could look to bolster its backfield during the NFL draft.
