UPDATE: Woman shot near Parkdale and Barton streets in east Hamilton
Hamilton police are investigating an east end shooting that sent a woman to hospital overnight.
In a video on Twitter, media relations officer Const. Krista-Lee Ernst said just after 11 p.m. Wednesday night, police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Barton Street East and Parkdale Avenue North.
In a release, police said officers found a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Hamilton Paramedics Supt. Dave Thompson told The Spectator that paramedics transported the victim to a local trauma centre in serious, but stable condition" with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they believe the shooting was targeted" and residents and businesses in the area are asked to check for any video surveillance that may assist their investigation.
The public can expect a police presence in the area for most of Thursday, said Ernst. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and there is no word on suspects.
