Make Astrill work on my new laptop with Ubuntu 20.04

I am in China, so I need to use a vpn sometimes.
I have Astrill. It works fine on this laptop.
On the new laptop, it will not connect. User name and password are correct. Astrill either just keeps trying to connect, or times out, then tries again.
Is there some setting in Ubuntu 20.04 that might affect this?
