Bucs re-signing Fournette to reported 1-year deal worth up to $4M
Running back Leonard Fournette is re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he told NFL reporter Josina Anderson on Friday.
The free agent is inking a one-year contract worth up to $4 million, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Fournette was the backup to Ronald Jones for the regular season, but the veteran exploded during Tampa Bay's four-game run to a Super Bowl title, racking up 300 rushing yards, 148 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns.
The former Jacksonville Jaguars standout had 367 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 97 carries during the regular season.
Tampa Bay has retained almost all of its championship core during a busy start to the offseason.
Receiver Chris Godwin was kept with the franchise tag, while linebacker Lavonte David, tight end Rob Gronkowski, pass-rusher Shaq Barrett, and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh all signed new contracts. Wideout Antonio Brown is the only significant name of the 2020 team who remains a free agent.
