Man, 33, arrested in Waterdown stabbing incident

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged a man for the March 22 stabbing in Waterdown.

According to police media release, a 33-year-old Hamilton man was arrested on March 29 after police executed a search warrant. The man was charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The accused was slated to appear in court on March 30.

Police are thanking the residents of Waterdown for their assistance in contacting police and providing information to assist in the investigation. Police had previously released surveillance video and photos believed to be of the suspect.

According to police, a 47-year-old Waterdown man was walking with his spouse in the area of Main Street North and John Street East around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, March 22 when a man approached him and "stabbed him multiple times without provocation." Police said the spouse was knocked to the ground during the incident and received minor injuries.

The suspect was believed to be carrying an "edged weapon," police said, and was last seen fleeing the area eastbound on John Street toward Mill Street North.

Hamilton Paramedics Supt. Dave Thompson said the stabbing victim suffered "multiple" stab wounds and was transported to a local trauma centre in "stable, but serious" condition.

Det. Sgt. Marco DelConte said on March 24 the victim was in stable condition.

The suspect was believed to be carrying an "edged weapon," police said, and was last seen fleeing the area eastbound on John Street toward Mill Street North.
