what if my PSU won't light up -5v on the tester?

My computer build won't start, so I dug out my old PSU tester and plugged in the 24-pin cable. Every light lights up except the -5v. I assume they all have to light up, so...I suppose that must mean the PSU is faulty? @x?!...it's a new PSU. Technically a couple of years old, but never used. The power supply does start running when plugged into the tester and the strip.
Edit: Okay, I got the computer on, though I haven't even plugged it into video yet, just stood there watching the CPU fan start spinning. One step at a time. ...It was a different problem: I had the little power switch connector plugged into the wrong pins on the bottom. You know how hard the labels on those pins are to read at that size.
Well, that's great. It at least makes the power supply tester result less critical; but still, is the PSU damaged if the -5v won't light up?
