Brady rookie card sells for record $2.25M

For the second time in less than a month, a Tom Brady rookie card has shattered the record for the highest amount ever paid for a football card.

An autographed Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket card was auctioned off for over $2.25 million at Lelands, breaking the previous record of $1.32 million that another copy of the same card sold for in early March.

Bidding on the card started at $75,000 and already reached $1.94 million with more than two weeks remaining in the auction.

Brady's card ranks eighth among the most expensive sports trading card sales of all time and is the only football card in the top 10, according to Action Network's Darren Rovell. The top spot belongs to a 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps card that sold for $5.2 million.
