copying with cp or rsync does not work correctly

Hello everyone,
Yesterday, I wanted to copy some music files to my music player, but Arch Linux copied them a WAY too fast and some files were transfered broken to my music player so it couldn't play them. I'm talking about a 500MB file transfer with USB 2.0. It should usually take up a minute but my system just did it under 5 seconds. Maybe it just copies the files in the background but then I don't know when they are fully copied over.
Can anyone help?
