Had troube installing Debian 10.9 with root privileges
by normando from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5GDFE)
Hi
This is a newbie question, but I've done several reinstalls, and am frustrated, so here I am.
I want to install Debian 10.9 on two old laptops that need wifi.
On one of them, I have installed Debian 10.9 several times. The root privileges never worked. So, I wasn't able to update or install a firewall on the laptop. So, I tried again following a suggestion to install with the userpassword and the rootpassword being the same password. After this, I was able to do an update and install a firewall, but I hate it. I did this on both laptops, and it has worked, but I'm next to positive that this is not the best way to start off with a new install. So many suggestions from so many unknown people. Why doesn't Debian have a set recipe for getting started? I guess the answer is not all computers are the same. Anyway, do I reinstall again? Shred everything, erase everything, and take a whole day doing it? Can I change the regular user password? Can I change the rootpassword? I'd rather change the regular user password?
Thank you for your time
