The COVID-19 vaccine will be offered at dozens of additional Hamilton pharmacies - including 11 in the lower city - within the coming week.

The province announced late Sunday that 32 more pharmacies in Hamilton will begin to rollout the AstraZeneca vaccine to residents aged 55 and over.

That brings the total number of pharmacies allowed to administer vaccines in Hamilton to 53.

On April 1, the Ford government announced 21 local pharmacies would offer the AstraZeneca vaccine from as early as April 3.

No lower city locations were included in the rollout.

It drew the ire of local officials, who called the province's omission of inner-city vaccination sites nothing short of reckless" in a joint statement issued April 6.

The province says it expects to add more pharmacy locations by the end of April.

Residents can book an appointment to be vaccinated at eligible pharmacies at covid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations.
