Venezuela’s Last Major Independent Newspaper Is on the Verge of Extinction

Venezuela's top court just awarded a leading socialist official a huge sum of money in a defamation case against the country's largest newspaper.

"It is an astronomical amount," said the newspaper's attorney.

The paper lacks the money to pay the damages. And that appears to be the whole point.
