AlienBob's -compat packages

I see Eric has updated his -compat packages for boost and icu4c. I also see that Pat has included some "compat" files for these in aaa_libraries.
Are Eric's packages now redundant, or are they still required for some of his packages?
I've removed them in light of the aaa-libraries update, and everything *seems* to be working OK, but its possible I just haven't stumbled across the failure yet! ;)
