Streaming Services Advice
by business_kid from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5H2HJ)
As a sideline to the "Good movie to watch" thread, let's talk a little about streaming services.
Netflix is the dominant player, but doesn't have either the costliest (and perhaps newest/best) stuff or the older stuff that doesn't get sufficient views. I have a screen on my son's account, and he's now paying for it, which is a pleasant change.:).
Disney, Hulu, Amazon Prime are American based in the main, which is a disadvantage, because there's not much American stuff I like.
As for my tastes, I have bans on sex, porn, serial violence. I would ban racial and class prejudice, but it's unavoidable. I avoid content which 'explores' or 'experiments' because they made a movie with no story, so they're dumb for making it, and I'm dumber for watching. Likewise, suspense/thriller content which leaves you with PTSD. The better the movie, the worse your PTSD will be. Lastly, I'm leery of magic, demons, immortals, and that sort of things I watched 3 Lord of the Rings movies but my son warned me off the later ones, and I took his wise advice. I avoid all James Bond movies; the sex, racial stereotypes and violence all get to me. Why are only white men capable of getting ideas or being intelligent? Do people really think that? I'm white, btw, but meet twice a week with clever and insightful people of 22 nationalities. I want to be entertained. Was 'Silence of the Lambs' entertaining? Don't think so.
Now I see Channel 4 in the UK offering 1500 shows for 3.99/month. How many of those 1500 shows can I watch? Can I subscribe to BBC's Iplayer? Are either worth it?
What do folks consider good value in streaming? Any you might recommend for me?
