Can I "upgrade" Postfix from Local Only to Internet Site?
by lucmove from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5H5BF)
There was a time when I sometimes needed to send email to remote addresses from the command line with mailx. I also used ssmtp for that.
I was testing some local email handling recently and decided to install Postfix to send and receive just local mail, following instructions I found on a Web page. I was in a hurry and went ahead with the idea and Debian removed ssmtp. I shrugged it off and went ahead.
Now I need to send email to remote addresses again. I just tested it and it failed. Postfix bounced the message. How hard is it to "upgrade" Postfix from the Local Only mode to Internet Site mode? Is it just a quick tweak or do I have to reinstall and do everything over to get the configure text dialog again and select Internet Site?
Yes, I could read the manual, but I find MTAs overly complex and end up doing things wrong. I've been meaning to build a personal Web site for a long time and still haven't done it because I would need the email feature and I find it too hard. Please just don't answer, move on with your life and let this rot in the Zero Reply Threads bin if you think I'm asking too big a favor.
TIA
