can't find proper kernel .config on Slackware32 (make interface says it's 64-bit)

On Slackware32 I need APM which is apparently no longer included so I have to build a kernel module. When I followed those instructions on Slackware.com, the configuration on my 686/p3 was described as 64-bit (and additionally when I copied running kernel's config from /boot!) The following is what I have, so why would it have the wrong configuration? Isn't this a huge omission/bug?

kernel-firmware-20160628git-noarch-1
kernel-generic-4.4.14-i586-1
kernel-generic-smp-4.4.14_smp-i686-1
kernel-headers-4.4.14_smp-x86-1
kernel-huge-4.4.14-i586-1
kernel-huge-smp-4.4.14_smp-i686-1
kernel-modules-4.4.14-i586-1
kernel-modules-smp-4.4.14_smp-i686-1
kernel-source-4.4.14_smp-noarch-1

How do I get the proper 32-bit configuration or does this need to be added? It means /boot/config* and /proc/config.gz are wrong!latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=XF_AsJEk4CA:byYGJfWBowo:F7zBnMy latest?i=XF_AsJEk4CA:byYGJfWBowo:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=XF_AsJEk4CA:byYGJfWBowo:gIN9vFwXF_AsJEk4CA
