New COVID-19 death on Six Nations

A member of Six Nations of the Grand River has died of COVID-19.

The death on April 29 was announced by elected council on Monday.

The news brings Six Nations' COVID-19 death toll to 11.

Six Nations Elected Council would like to express their sincere condolences to the families and friends affected by this tragic loss," councillors said in a media release.

As of the latest update from Ohsweken Public Health on Friday, there were 29 active cases on the reserve, 55 per cent of which screened positive for a variant of concern.

One band member is in hospital.

Since the pandemic began, 499 people have tested positive, with 457 cases resolved.

As of Friday, 1,509 band members are fully vaccinated, with 1,152 partially vaccinated.

Please continue to do your part to protect our people by staying home where possible, avoiding private gatherings, wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and getting vaccinated," the statement from council said.
